Education in remote valley

Poverty Reduction and Education through Agricultural Reform Programme

Problem Statement:
Nepal has come up through a decade long political conflict from 1996 to 2008. One of the main causes of this conflict is poverty. Still 31% Nepali people are under the line of poverty index according to Central Department of Statistics of Nepal. The major cause of the poverty is the lack of education and employment opportunities inside the country. Large numbers of the children in remote villages are facing difficulties to get school level education. Instead remote villagers of Nepal are forced to use their children to help in farming because they are unable to earn enough for their basic living .
Many schools in remote villages in Nepal are in very poor condition. Some of the schools have to repair doors, windows and some have to repair table, benches. Some have leak in roof and some have no roof at all. Students are studying in the open ground or under the trees also because of danger of collapse of mud wall at any time. Most of the schools have no toilets and proper supply of water. Nepal government is unable to allocate proper budget for such problems.
Almost villager’s main occupation is farming. They are following old ways of agriculture. They labor hard, invest more but harvest very little. They work whole days and late nights including their children but unable to fulfill their basic needs also. They are unable to send their children to schools. They are following old ways of working and there is under utilization of available resources like fields, domestic animals, community forests, fertilizers, pesticides etc. They don’t know the modern ways, participatory and cooperative way of farming, foresting and rearing of domestic animals.
Thus they are facing many problems in terms of working in the agricultural occupation because of less skill, knowledge, modern technology and budget as well. So their earnings are obviously very low than their high degree of labour.
Now Nepal is at the stage of promoting peace inside the country. Sustainable peace must be achieved if those who have been left behind are to become full participating members of Nepali society. It is possible only after addressing issues of poverty and illiteracy that is spread in Nepali society. Unless the issue of poverty and illiteracy is addressed, the sustainable peace cannot be promoted.
So first we want to provide study books, note books, pens, school bag, dress and annual fee to their children. We want to work with local community to provide repair and maintenance facility where government budget is not covering for community schools and its surroundings.
We can train remote villagers to change their attitude, working habits, methods and techniques in to modern ways for more and more income in less investment . We can train them to grow according to climate, weather and season. We can train them to rear animal which give more production than traditional. We want to train them about growing trees for wood, timber and grass to raise their income.
The large number of Youths going abroad in search of employment must be attracted to work inside the nation. This can be done only by creating more employment opportunities inside the country. Enhancement of above different skills to people from disadvantaged groups can be effective idea.
It is essential to create sustainable development by providing community members with proper awareness, trainings and support that will enhance skills in the community and allow currently disadvantaged people to engage effectively in the project area of Nepal's changing political, economic and social future.
So the project aims to all districts, central hilly region of Nepal. People of Village Development Committees in Kavrepalchowk will be trained with the target of agricultural programme to raise their income so that their basic need will be easily fulfilled, live the independent life in their locality and they will be able to send their children to school bearing all the education expenses with in few years.
So our target groups will be the disadvantaged groups of youths from different castes and ethnic groups to make an inclusive participation.
We have a clear vision to systematic and long term development of rural areas of Nepal since the country is also regarded as the country of villages. So our organization strongly thinks we have that potentiality to achieve the goal of this call for proposal.

Project Goal:
To increase economic empowerment through enhancement of education-infrastructures and modern skills in agricultural occupation. People of Village Development Committees in Kavrepalchowk will be trained with the target of agricultural programme to raise their income so that their basic need will be easily fulfilled, live the independent life in their locality and they will be able to send their children to school bearing all the education expenses with in few years.
The remote villagers will be able to send their children school bearing educational materials and annual fees after few years or after the successful completion of this project. There will be at least secured environment and infrastructure in the schools for their children with the availability of toilets and pure drinking water.

Project Locations:
All districts

Economic empowerment of remote villagers including women, dalits & people with disability (PwDs) through enhancement of modern skills and ways in agriculture will strengthen their economic power.
The enhancement of agricultural reform programme will empower the target groups economically. The economical activities in the local community will be increased.

The increased economic activities will aware of those people from unnecessary expenses. They will avoid such kind of expenses.

The increased income generation sources through such programme will decrease the numbers of children from remote villages not going to school.

Expected Outcomes:
Since the project contributes to enhance study materials to children, improved infrastructure of schools and its surroundings, skills and awareness to villagers including women, dalits & people with disability (PwDs), they are involved in agricultural activities. Thus they are empowered economically and conceptually. Economic and conceptual empowerment will inspire them to be involved in many social activities. This programme will increase the income level and decrease the illiteracy rate from disadvantaged groups. This will help to promote the sustainable peace in the nation also.

The purchasing power of the target groups are increased so that the local productions can get easy approach of the market. The market promotions of local goods will aware common people to start a small business of their own using local resources.
The economical activities are increased in the grass root level as the people including women, dalits & people with disability (PwDs) are empowered. The local capital is utilized in the same level. They understand the value of utilizing the money in small income generating programmes and generating the sources of money.
Unnecessary expenses are controlled because of increased economical activities. They understand the better utilization of money. They avoid unnecessary expenses as far as possible. Instead they will be be ready to bear expenses to send their children to school including study materials.
The numbers of youths going abroad for employment in community level will be decreased. The increased income generation sources through enhancement of modern skills and techniques will attract youths to self employment than going out of country.

They will be following new ways of working and there will be optimum utilization of available resources like fields, domestic animals, community forests, fertilizers, pesticides etc. They will know the modern ways, participatory and cooperative way of farming, foresting and rearing of domestic animals. It costs according to number and type of awareness and training programme launched. Training includes travel cost, lodging, fooding, training manual, trainer's allowance etc.
